MICHAEL HAPESHIS – Writer, Producer, Director
BIOGRAPHY AND FILMOGRAPHY

Michael Hapeshis is a Writer, Producer and Director of Greek Cypriot Origin living and working in London. Michael spent the first years of his life in London, subsequently returning to Cyprus in 1964, at the age of five, to attend Greek school. He lived in the north part of Cyprus, which is now under Turkish occupation, for ten years. It was the time for learning, a time to look at the world around and pose questions. Kyrenia, being the most beautiful and idyllic part of the island, where densely wooded mountains met the sandy coastline, had a profound influence in shaping the young boy’s character. Indeed the north coast of Cyprus is famous for giving birth to notable poets and artists and Michael’s family has always been in the forefront of artistic activity, distinguishing themselves especially in poetry.
In 1974, he was uprooted from his homeland by the advancing Turkish troops, which destroyed everything in
their way. The family emigrated once more back to England where Michael studied Architecture at
Greenwich University from which he graduated in 1984. He returned to Cyprus in the same year, this time
to face the full magnitude of the disaster brought about by the Turkish invasion of 1974. For fifteen years,
he says, I felt like a fish out of the water. In 1999, he returns once more to London, now a married man
and father of three children. He begins to work as architect, pursuing in his spare time his second great
love, filmmaking, which in the end has becomes his other main activity.
Since February 2001, he created MICHAEL P. HAPESHIS LIMITED now taken over by MPH FILM FACTORY
LIMITED through which he produced and directed numerous short films, TV soaps, documentaries and two
feature films. SHOOTOUT, a 35mm feature film investigates the trials and tribulations of a group of young
filmmakers on their first day of shooting, examining various aspects of human relationships, their strengths
and weaknesses, their dreams and aspirations. SHOOTOUT was showcased in Edinburgh Film Festival in
2001. In addition, he has just completed a second feature film, DINNER WITH MY SISTERS which premiered
at the 6th Cyprus International Film Festival and was cinematically released in the UK through the
Cineworld chain of screens. His short film MISS SPARKS was showcased as part of the Brighton Film Festival
at Easter 2002 and received the Best Digital Film Award at the 2nd Cyprus Short Film Festival in February
2005. His last short, RESURRECTION was completed in 2006 and was nominated for the Best Drama Award at
the Los Angeles Film Festival in September 2006 and also participated at the Bilbao Film Festival of the
same year. It has also received the Award for Technical and Artistic Excellence at the 3rd Cyprus Short Film
Festival in March 2007. His short film ANTIDOTON received the Best Film Award - Greek of the World at the
39th Drama Greek Short Film festival in 2016. In 2017, his film THE INSIGNIFICANT LIFE OF HELEN PAVLI
received a directorial merit at the International Short Film Festival in Drama, Greece. In April 2017, he has
